Addressing Teen Driving Risks Following Local Tragedy
A recent night in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana, was marred by a devastating accident that left a 16-year-old from Fairview Alpha critically injured. The teenager, driving a 2016 Audi SUV on US-71, lost control of the vehicle near Hwy 3163, resulting in a serious collision with a road sign and a utility pole. The incident, which occurred at approximately 11:53 p.m., required emergency services to extricate the teen from the wreckage before being transported for urgent care. The Louisiana State Police Troop E is investigating the crash, as the community hopes for the teen's recovery.

December 3 reigned high in the hearts of young and old as the CPKC Holiday Express rolled into Coushatta. The excitement began to build as the Southern Belle train including the Christmas engine pulled five cars full of Christmas joy to a stop on the tracks at 3:00 pm. Thanks to the hard work of the Red River Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Coushatta Police, streets were blocked, and people began to line up. Officials estimated over 600 people from at least 4 parishes attended.

Lions Club learns about Pelican Institute for Public Policy
During a recent Natchitoches Lions Club meeting, members learned about The Pelican Institute for Public Policy. James Baehr, Special Counsel, is a Constitutional litigator and one of the organization’s founders who shared the efforts of the organization with the Lions Club. Baehr shared with the Club that he serves as the Reserve Regional Defense Counsel- East Coast with the Marine Corp Reserves. He shared with members about his deployments as well as his work with the Command Staff. Baehr earned the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. He served as an active duty Marine Judge advocate defense counsel, where he defended over 200 Marines in trials, presentencing trials and administrative boards. As a civilian, he has served as a federal prosecutor with the US Attorney’s Office and clerked for Judge Edith Clement, Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
