Partial Grand Ave. closure expected as intersection work begins
A project to expand a heavily-traveled Ames intersection is kicking off with temporary lane closures. Starting Monday, Nov. 2, the northbound lanes of Grand Ave. will close north of the 13th Street intersection, as Ames Electric Services begins to replace power poles. The lanes are expected to remain closed through Friday, Nov. 20. This is the first step of an intersection improvement project at 13th Street and Grand Ave that is expected to begin construction in 2028. Some Des Moines Git-N-Go stations don't have gas, 3 have closed
Some Git-n-Go convenience stores in the Des Moines metro have stopped selling gasoline and three appear to have shut down entirely. Several stores shut down their gas pumps in December 2025 to make the modifications to dispense E15, a 15% ethanol blend gasoline also known as unleaded 88 for its octane rating. Some of those same stores have stopped selling gas again. Here's what we know so far. Why has Git-N-Go stopped selling gasoline? Git-N-Go declined multiple requests for comment. A spokesperson would not confirm which stores had permanently closed or which temporarily stopped selling gas. Smaller, regional convenience stores like Git-N-Go have been dropping out of the industry in droves in 2026, according to C-Store Dive . "Rising operating costs, persistent labor challenges, geopolitical uncertainty and weak consumer sentiment are among the many headwinds convenience retailers face in 2026," C-Store Dive states. Which Git-N-Go stores are not selling gasoline? Most of Git-n-Go's stores are in central Iowa, but there are four in Illinois as well as Iowa stores as far away as Hampton and Hudson. Git-N-Go's website still lists 47 stores. The Register confirmed that a store at 1240 Keo Way in downtown Des Moines had removed all of
