Injury-riddled Wolverines come up empty to Lumberjacks
VIRGINIA—After sustaining an amount of injuries too unpleasant to count last week in their road loss to Duluth Denfeld, the Rock Ridge football team came into Friday’s matchup with Cloquet more shorthanded than any football team ever hoped to be. In fact, the typical Wolverine roster of seniors, juniors and sophomores was limited to less than two dozen players which necessitated suiting up a number of freshmen for the contest. That put the Wolverines at around 30 available players on Friday and that ultimately proved too big a hill to climb as Rock Ridge suffered a 40-0 homecoming loss to the Lumberjacks at Raduenz Field. Losing so many key starters on both sides of the ball, Wolverines head coach Brandon Borich said the situation felt all too familiar to him. “This happened to us last year where we had bodies dropping like crazy,” Borich said. “In the Denfeld game last week we lost 11 starters total from both sides of the ball. We lost everyone and that’s tough for any time.” But that reality didn’t just set in on Friday night. Rock Ridge had the entire week to prepare and at least attempt to put something out on the field.
