Park Place closure scheduled for Aug. 18-19, 2026
ATHENS, Ohio – The City of Athens announces that the southern side of Park Place will be closed on Tuesday, August 18 and Wednesday, August 19 to install a fire hydrant and for road repair. Park Place will be closed starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday until work is completed on Wednesday. There will be no thru or emergency traffic. Motorists are asked to avoid the area. The City apologizes for the inconvenience. Questions or concerns may be directed to the City of Athens Engineering and Public Works Department, 740-593-7636.

New Chillicothe roundabout opens to traffic on Monday
CHILLICOTHE – The new roundabout at Mill Street and Yoctangee Parkway will open to traffic on Aug. 17. The roundabout is set to open before the start of the new school year as construction, funded through the Appalachian Community Grant Program, enters its final phase. Crews have completed roadway paving, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, pavement markings, pedestrian crossings, and the installation of new traffic signs at the intersection. More: Local businesses believe Yoctangee Parkway roundabout is not needed “This project reflects our commitment to making this area safer and easier to navigate for residents, visitors, and students,” said Mayor Luke Feeney in a news release. “We know the construction and road closures have been a real challenge for nearby residents, businesses, and everyone who travels through this area, and we sincerely appreciate their patience and cooperation. As the roundabout opens, we encourage drivers to slow down, pay attention, and give one another time to adjust to the new traffic pattern.” The roundabout is designed to improve traffic flow while reducing the risk of crashes. ZANESVILLE, OH – As students head back to class, the Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to hit the brakes when they see the big yellow bus.
