GVSU football stunned by SVSU for detrimental third loss in a row, playoff chances dwindle
Coming off of a loss to rival Ferris State, the Grand Valley State football team had no margin for error if the Lakers wanted to make the playoffs. GVSU had already lost to Michigan Tech in overtime and three losses would likely keep the Lakers out of the playoffs as it did last season. Grand Valley State moved to its next rival and a slow start doomed the Lakers in a 27-20 loss at Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, Oct. 24. It was the third consecutive loss for the Lakers, who dropped to 5-3. Rams ease past Jenison 42-14 to clinch playoff berth
Coming off of a disappointing loss to Hudsonville last week despite carrying the play for nearly the entirety of the contest, it was little surprise that the Rams came out flat against a Jenison team that had been absolutely crushed the previous two games. But Rockford still made plenty of winning plays as they emerged victorious by the score of 42-14 at Carlson-Munger Stadium in Rockford on Friday, October 23. Two special team touchdowns highlighted the evening for the Rams beginning with a Bryce Miller 89-yard return of the opening kickoff from the Starburst formation. Wyatt Colson later added a blocked punt that he fell on in the end zone for the final score of the night. The one glaring issue for Rockford on the evening was a total of ten penalties for 92 yards against Rockford. But they still managed to overcome that stat and emerge with the win.
