G2 Geomagnetic Storm Could Bring Northern Lights to Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Columbus, and Cleveland Tonight as Draconid Meteor Shower Peaks Under Clear Skies
COLUMBUS, OH — The northern lights may be visible across Indiana and Ohio Thursday night into Friday morning if the space weather forecast holds. A G2, or moderate, geomagnetic storm is possible as a couple of coronal mass ejections interact with Earth. While this event is not as strong as some previous displays, viewing conditions are expected to be nearly perfect. Clear skies and minimal moonlight will also set up a great night for the Draconid meteor shower and planet viewing.

Cooler temps slow plant growth
There are a lot of things I am not; one of them is a weatherman. Looking at the extended forecast, there is a trend toward cooler weather persisting. We know this changes from day to day and depends on the source of your weather forecast. Given that a portion of our crops still need to mature, even for silage harvest, we do need to consider how this can impact the quality of the corn silage we will produce. Due to the maturity stage at which we typically harvest corn for silage, weather patterns that disrupt plant growth increase the possibility of forages with high levels of nitrates, which can lead to animal health issues. This year, there is a significant possibility that nitrates could be an issue in some harvested forages. Elevated plant nitrate levels are the result of the plant’s inability to convert soil nitrate into plant proteins due to growth being slowed by environmental conditions. Soil nitrates are taken up through the roots and, once in the plant, are converted to nitrite, then ammonia, then amino acids, and finally to plant proteins. Virtually all of our forage crops are susceptible to excessive nitrate accumulation. Some are more susceptible
