Howell wins final KLAA football title behind Jack Gondick’s 234 yards
HOWELL — Howell’s lone loss during the 2025 regular season came against Northville. Had that 17-7 letdown not happened, Howell might not have been celebrating a 9-0 regular season and its third straight league title in the final Kensington Lakes Activities Association championship game Friday, Oct. 23. And there’s an even greater chance junior fullback Jack Gondick wouldn’t have been mobbed by teammates after rushing for 234 yards and earning game MVP honors in a 35-22 payback victory over Northville. Because, really, Gondick’s story starts after that Week 3 loss last season. He watched from the sidelines, practically fuming that he couldn’t get on the field enough to help his teammates pull off a comeback against Northville. He just knew he could make a difference if he played more. So the following Monday, he approached Howell coach Brian Lewis at practice and pleaded his case for more playing time. More: Subscribe to our high school football newsletter “He said he was willing to do whatever it takes to win the job,” Lewis said. Lewis didn’t hesitate to give Gondick a chance to prove himself. He threw him into Howell’s signature drill, “win the line.” Essentially, it’s a one-on-one battle in

High school football: Breaking down the top games in Week 9
This is it for the Kensington Lakes Activities Association. The league was formed 18 years ago. Now, thanks to conference realignment, it’s calling it quits, with 12 teams headed to the Southeastern Conference next school year and Northville and Novi moving to the Oakland Activities Association. That makes Friday’s KLAA championship game between Gold Division winner Howell (8-0, 6-0) and Black winner Northville (7-1, 5-1) the final football game in league history. And, boy, are there plenty of storylines to help the KLAA go out with a bang. Howell is looking to three-peat as league champion, an impressive feat considering it had to knock off Belleville to claim its first two titles, including upsetting Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood to win in 2024. More: Subscribe to our high school football newsletter “For Howell to win KLAA championships, that’s something special with how good Belleville has been over the years,” Howell coach Brian Lewis said Oct. 19. “To be in that category speaks volumes of this program. Winning championship game trophies and keeping the hardware at home, even in our rivalry games, that just shows the commitment of the players in our program.” But Howell must figure out how to beat Northville.

Every Student. Every Step. Every Day.
Schools are supposed to be a place for students to learn, develop relationships, and prepare for their futures, all while being in a secure environment. However, growing concerns about school violence and emergency preparedness have made school safety an important issue. While schools often focus on security measures within their buildings, protecting students also requires considering what happens outside the classroom. At Concord, middle school students walk to the high school for a portion of their class periods, which raises important questions about whether current safety procedures protect every student no matter where they are.
