UW-Madison plans to add 1,700-bed dorm through private developer
(The Center Square) – The University of Wisconsin-Madison is looking to expand its dorm capacity through a privately owned dorm on state land on campus that would require nearly $30 million in annual rent. The costs will be part of comparable housing costs for new students to add nearly 1,700 student beds to campus starting in fall 2029. The nearly $338 million dorms will be build by developer PRG Badger Properties with an option for the state to buy the building after 10 years at fair-market value. The new dorms will be built after Merit Hall, a small dorm of 72 beds, is demolished. The proposal passed the State Building Commission after it passed the Board of Regents and also must be approved by the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee. “Housing capacity has not kept up” associate vice chancellor for University Housing Jeff Novak said about the plan. Novak said that the last down to open was in 2013 and, since then, the university has added 2,000 freshmen and 8,000 total undergraduate students. He said that there would be no impact on tuition and no taxpayer funds would be used on the project. The university currently has 93% of its freshmen

Football: Top-seeded Hamilton defeats Janesville Parker in playoffs
SUSSEX — Janesville Parker’s season has officially come to a close. Top-seeded Hamilton soundly defeated No. 8-seeded Janesville Parker 40-0 in a Division 1 Level 1 playoff game Friday night on Grove Field at Hamilton High School. The Chargers moved to 10-0 on the year and looked just as good on the gridiron as they did on paper. Meanwhile, the Vikings end their season with an overall record of 4-6. They went 4-3 in the Big Eight Conference, which included a playoff-clinching victory over Middleton. While Parker generated some big plays, such as forcing numerous turnovers and completing a 36-yard catch, the Chargers proved to be too much. The Chargers scored 33 points in the first half and scored a 53-yard rushing TD in the third quarter. The Vikings started the game with the ball. On the second play from scrimmage, Parker junior quarterback Ashton Smith threw an interception. That turnover led to a 3-play scoring drive for the Chargers, which was capped off with an 11-yard rushing TD just 47 seconds into the game. The Vikings failed to get a first down on their next drive and punted on fourth-and-9. Hamilton muffed the punt, putting Parker’s offense on Hamilton’s
