Columbus police have named the man they consider the suspect in a deadly shooting stemming from an early Monday brawl outside a Waffle House near the Ohio State University campus .

Jaquan Curry, 19, of the city's East Side, is wanted on a murder charge in the shooting that happened shortly after 2:30 a.m. outside the restaurant at 1712 North High St, according to documents filed in Franklin County Municipal Court. Curry was not in custody as of early Tuesday afternoon.

Ronald Diggs, 38, died in the shooting that Columbus police initially said stemmed from a fight between 15 and 20 people.

Detective Matthew Smith of the Columbus police Homicide Unit wrote in court documents that he interviewed several witnesses after the shooting. The witnesses told him that a fight started inside the restaurant and continued outside.

Several people were involved, but a witness identified Curry, who also goes by J-Cole, as the person who shot Diggs in the chest. Officers responding to the fight and shooting found Diggs lying on the ground on East 13th Street, just east of North High Street, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Diggs was taken by medics to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:06 a.m., police said.

The area was the site of a similar shooting in April 2023 that left one person dead .
