    Inmate’s SC death being investigated as homicide

    COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities are investigating the death of a South Carolina inmate.

    Tristan R. Gist, 34, was found unresponsive in his cell at Lee Correctional Institution on Tuesday night, according to the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC).

    Officials say his death is being investigated as a homicide.

    An autopsy will be performed on Gist to determine the cause and manner of death.

    The SCDC Inspector General’s Office, Lee County Coroner, and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are investigating the death.

    Gist was a former Richland County jail officer who was sentenced to 60 years in prison for killing his pregnant fiancée, according to NBC affiliate WIS-TV .
