    Prep roundup: Kennedy and North Marion/Gervais baseball clinch tenth consecutive victories

    The 2A/1A No. 7 Trojans rattled off four runs in the opening inning to ultimately route Salem Academy 10-1 at home on Wednesday, May 1, and secure their tenth consecutive victory.

    Kennedy managed nine hits and six RBIs in the outing. Senior Brody Kleinschmit led the team with two hits and two RBIs, while Colby Rich and Rylee Walker added two hits each. Brody Panuke finished with one hit and one RBI.

    Kleinschmit earned the win on the mound, surrendering zero runs and zero hits over four innings, striking out nine and walking one. Panuke, meanwhile, threw two frames in relief, allowing one run on two hits, striking out six and walking one.

    Kennedy (18-1, 10-0 SD2) will looks for its eleventh straight win on Friday, May 3, against Salem Academy (1-14, 0-10 SD2) on the road.

    Kennedy softball

    The Trojans couldn't quite keep up with Crusaders at home, falling 13-6.

    Salem Academy scored 12 runs through four innings, overwhelming the young Kennedy squad. The Trojans totaled six hits and six RBIs, with Annaliese Schacher recording two hits and three RBIs to lead the way. Madelyn Schaecher finished with one hit and two RBIs while Brianna Traeger added one hit and one RBI.

    Schacher was in the circle, surrendering 13 runs on 10 hits through seven innings, striking out six and walking 11.

    Kennedy (6-10, 6-5 SD2) looks to bounce back against Salem Academy (16-0, 9-0 SD2) on Friday, May 3, on the road.

    Colton softball

    The Vikings have now won six in a row after thumping Western Christian in a double-header on Wednesday afternoon.

    Colton won the first bout 27-9 after five innings, recording 27 hits and 25 RBIs. The Vikings made even quicker work of the Pioneers in the second game, cruising to a 18-3 win after three innings, totaling eight hits and 15 RBIs.

    Gracie Hakes recorded a total of six hits and 10 RBIs over the afternoon. Chayse Smith finished with five hits and five RBIs while Payton Herbison finished with four hits and seven RBIs. Kaylee Holliday added four hits and four RBIs and Katelynn Kimsey recorded five hits and four RBIs.

    Hakes was in the circle throughout, surrendering a total of 11 runs on 15 hits over eight innings, striking out eight and walking 11.

    The Vikings (9-12, 7-5 SD2) look to continue their winning ways against Salem Academy (16-0, 9-0 SD2) on Monday, May 6.

    North Marion/Gervais baseball

    The 4A No. 2 Huskies inked their tenth consecutive win on Wednesday, relying on a walk-off from junior Will Stafford in the tenth inning.

    Landon Fowler singled to open the inning for the Huskies in the bottom of the frame. Senior Jaidan Nanez replaced Fowler at first, eventually advancing to second on an error from Stayton's Colton Connally. After Isaac Peirce grounded out, Stafford drove Nanez home on a fly ball to left field.

    The Huskies recorded just four hits. Stafford led the way with two hits and one RBI, while Dawson Schrenk and Fowler added a hit each. Senior Carter Reilly opened on the mound, surrendering zero runs on two hits over nine innings, striking out eight and walking three. Fowler pitched an inning in relief, allowing one hit, striking out one and walking one.

    North Marion/Gervais (18-2, 11-0 OWC) will close its three-game series against Stayton (9-12, 3-8 OWC) on Thursday, May 2, at home.
