(COLORADO SPRINGS) — According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), at around 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, members of the Motor Vehicle Theft Unit, the Robbery Unit, and the Tactical Enforcement Unit (TEU) located a truck that had been stolen earlier that day and arrested the suspect.

The truck was reportedly stolen from Monument at around 6 a.m. on Thursday. However, this was not the suspect’s first vehicle theft of the day. Earlier, the suspect had been involved in a crash on I-25 in Monument while driving a car that had been stolen from Colorado Springs on April 24, according to CSPD.

The suspect fled the accident on foot and later hijacked another truck by waving a handgun at the driver, who was seated in his truck at the 1700 block of Jackson Creek Parkway, near Higby Road, in Monument.

The suspect led the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) on a pursuit along the interstate in the Castle Rock area but managed to evade apprehension at that time.

CSPD reported that when TEU located the truck, the suspect attempted to flee on foot but was quickly caught. He was found to be in possession of a handgun and illegal drugs. The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Christopher Esquivel.

CSPD commended CSP and the Monument Police Department for promptly sharing information, greatly aiding investigators in the case.
