Hopewell man charged with 1st degree murder of woman found dead in Colonial Heights park

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) — Almost a month after a 36-year-old woman was found dead in Roslyn Landing Park , a Hopewell man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

In a May 9 press release, the Colonial Heights Police Department announced the arrest of 57-year-old Raymont Tasco, of Hopewell, in connection to a mid-April homicide .

Tasco is accused of killing 36-year-old Cynthia Chantè Solomon , also of Hopewell. Solomon was found dead along the Appomattox River in Roslyn Landing Park on April 18.

That day, officers responded to the park at around 5 a.m. after someone reported hearing a gunshot and then a splash. They found Solomon near the riverbank with a gunshot wound.

Police said Tasco was taken into custody on May 8 in the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia. He has been charged with first-degree murder, the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He is currently being held at Atlanta’s Clayton County Jail, but will soon be extradited to Colonial Heights, according to police.
