36-year-old woman found dead near river bank in Colonial Heights, police investigating

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) — The Colonial Heights Police Department is investigating after they said a 36-year-old woman was found dead at Roslyn Landing Park, near the Appomattox River, with a gunshot wound.

At around 5 a.m. on Thursday, April 18, police responded to Roslyn Landing Park for a report of a body found in the water. When they arrived on scene, they found a 36-year-old woman dead in the water near the bank of the river with a gunshot wound.

According to police, a citizen that was on a boat in the river reported hearing what they believed to be a gunshot and then a splash in the water.

The Virginia State Police Dive Team and the Medical Examiner responded to assist with the investigation. The victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for further examination.
