Meridian man pleads guilty in connection with death of confidential informant
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - A Meridian man has pleaded guilty in connection with the 2018 killing of a confidential informant. This month, Aubrey Maurice Jordan pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder for his involvement in the shooting death of an informant for the East Mississippi Drug Task Force.
City of Meridian demolishes 89 abandoned buildings, condemns 25 more
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - In recent weeks and months, there have been many structure fires in Meridian, and often, the building that has caught on fire is abandoned. In the last three years, the city has demolished 89 buildings, some commercial and some residential, as a way to beautify the city while also making it safer.
To start the weekend, showers will continue
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Mostly cloudy conditions are expected with showers likely to begin the weekend. Early morning showers are possible for Saturday and thunderstorm could be approaching in the afternoon. Temperatures will be increasing with highs near 89 degrees but heat index value will be as high as 97 degrees. Temperatures will be heating back up in the 90s this weekend compared to last weekend with temperatures in the 80s. Rain chances will increase to 80 percent with higher amounts of rainfall possible with thunderstorms. This increase in rain will help with dry conditions and will be beneficial for our area. Early showers will be possible again for Sunday with temperatures remaining in the 90s for the weekend and leading in to next week.

The recent rain has been beneficial for our ground
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Meridian has received nearly 5 inches of rain thus far this month, and most of that fell over the past 2 weeks. So, to no surprise, there’s a monthly surplus... and the ground is saturated areawide. Casey’s announces major purchase of stores in Texas, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi
The Ankeny-based Casey’s convenience store chain announced the acquisition today of 198 stores, including 148 in Texas and 50 in Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi. Casey’s is purchasing the CEFCO convenience stores for $1.145 billion. Casey’s CEO Darin Rebelez talked about the purchase in a conference call for investors. “This acquisition will quickly expand Casey’s presence in Texas, a very attractive market for Casey’s, in addition, we’ll be able to expand our footprint further into the South as well,” he says.
