Farmington River tubing starts tomorrow
NEW HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) - Farmington River Tubing opens for the season on Saturday. The New Hartford Fire Department sought to remind people about river safety. “It’s that time of year again,” the department posted to social media. “Our friends at Farmington River Tubing are opening for the 2024 season [Saturday], just in time for Memorial Day Weekend!”

Memorial Day Parade is May 27
The parade will line up at 9:30 a.m. in the parking lot on Bank Street and step off at 10 a.m. sharp. There will be stops to lay wreaths at center monuments before continuing to the cemetery. The guest speaker will be American Legion District 1 Commander Joe Haney. The invocation and benediction will be offered by St. Therese’s Father William Agyemang, and a 21-gun salute and Taps will be played in remembrance of all who served.

With an ambitious strategic plan and 40 years of successful programming under its belt, Flying Cloud Institute (FCI) continues to inspire young people and educators and ignite creativity while increasing access to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) learning through school residencies, after-school MakerSpaces, S•M•Art Labs and Girls Science Clubs, and summer, winter, and spring break programs. Founded in 1984 by Jane and Larry Burke and David Schwartz, the unique “Science Meets Art” approach has developed into STEAM programming that serves roughly 2,500 youth and educators in five school districts across Berkshire County and Region One in Connecticut annually. Berkshire schools lead the way in first day of Division VI outdoor track & field championships
The Berkshires led the way for Western Massachusetts at the Division VI outdoor track & field championships on Thursday with three first place finishers. Mount Greylock’s Maggie Nichols placed first in the 200 meters in 25.40, Monument Mountain’s Amelia Desilets placed first in the 2-mile in a time of 11:14.65 and Hoosac Valley’s Taylor Garabedian placed first in the discus with a distance of 108-01.
