Person dies after being shot by officer in Colchester

COLCHESTER, Conn. (WTNH) — One person has died after being shot by an officer Thursday night in Colchester.

Colchester police responded to a “disturbance” at around 6:17 p.m. in the area of Norwich Avenue. State police said a Colchester officer discharged their gun at a person they made contact with at the scene.

The person who was shot was transported to a local hospital for their injuries. One officer was also transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

The person has not yet been publicly identified.

Route 616 was closed between Harbor Road and Sullivan Road, but has since reopened.

The investigation has been handed over to the Connecticut Office of the Inspector General.
