Robins singing Christmas cheer with the elves
During the holiday season, music is prominent in many memories. Sometimes a song brings back a favorite memory or a specific carol sparks a memory of a favorite loved one. Last weekend the Bank, with Whit Wort Brewery in Gibbon, hosted the 3rd Annual Merry Folk and Christmas Concert. The headliners included Gibbon’s own Kris and Abby Robin. Other performers included David, Lark Brown, Karl Grant, Megan Schmidt, Rylie Lutgen, Sam Gatton and Dustin Meilke in front of a standing room only crowd.

Holiday lights come to Waseca, bringing Christmas cheer
For the first time in decades, State Street in downtown Waseca is lined with cheerful Christmas Lights thanks to a partnership between the Waseca Sleigh and Cutter Festival, Discover Waseca Tourism, the Waseca Art Center and other local organizations. Mayor Randy Zimmerman joined Kelly Miller with the Sleigh and Cutter Festival and Mikhail Rostislavovich of the Waseca Area Chamber of Commerce in Tourism in hitting a ceremonial special button to turn on the downtown lights on December 4. The event was the culmination of months of hard work by the Holiday Lights Committee, which organized under the umbrella of Discover Waseca Tourism but also worked with the Art Center to take advantage of its 501c3 status, which allows for tax deductible contributions. Rostislavovich said that Mayor Zimmerman and Councilor Stacy Schroeder initially came up with the idea of brightening up downtown with holiday lights more than a year ago. The Sleigh & Cutter Festival quickly signed onto the idea, a decision that Miller said was a no-brainer. “When we learned of this project, it felt like a natural extension of (our) mission,” Miller said. “Investing in these lights was an opportunity to help create a downtown that reflects the warmth

Waseca's Starfire hosts holiday craft show, winter wonderland
While not quite the grandiose show that was Christmas Time at The Mill, a more low key holiday celebration took place just down the street at the Starfire Event Center, with Santa stopping by for a winter wonderland. The Starfire hosted its winter wonderland last weekend and will again this weekend, coupling it last weekend with a popular holiday craft show that drew small vendors and holiday shoppers from across the region. Filled with trees, velvety snow and presents stacked high, the Starfire’s main ballroom has taken on a decidedly Christmas feel, even if there’s several weeks to go until the big day. Alongside several of his elves, Santa and Mrs Claus stopped by the Starfire early, in between meet and greets with children at The Mill also. Outside the winter wonderland, kids colored in holiday picture books, munched on cookies and even enjoyed Christmas movies. For the parents, a wide range of holiday gifts were available at the craft show, from the edible kinds, like cookies and cakes, to arts and crafts type items like handmade items and custom corcheted creations. With so many other holiday events and in Waseca, the Craft Show faced stiff competition. Still, vendors and

Winterfest annual parade brings thousands to Central Avenue
Even with temperatures settling into the teens, Faribault residents bundled up and headed downtown for Winterfest, the annual tradition that has been drawing crowds since the Faribault Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism launched it in 2017. What started as a small holiday event has grown into something the community seems unwilling to miss, no matter the weather. This year’s Parade of Lights featured a special guest: Grand Marshal Heidi Ernste from Earnest Effort Christmas Wish. On the Chamber’s Facebook page, they wrote, “Heidi’s passion for giving back and her tireless efforts to make the holidays brighter for families in need perfectly capture the spirit of Winterfest. Through Earnest Effort Christmas Wish, she reminds us all that ‘a whole bunch of littles can make a very big!’ — a message that reflects the power of community, kindness, and coming together to make a difference.” People began lining Central Avenue early, stamping their feet on the pavement to stay warm while waiting for the first glow of the parade. Children stood on snowbanks for a better view, and families wrapped blankets around their shoulders as the floats moved from Sixth Street NW, south toward Division Street. Dozens of lit-up floats and
