The Cobb County Water System reported an estimated 730 gallon wastewater sewer overflow occurred on April 17.

The overflow, resulting from a structural problem, occurred at 3374 Hopkins Road in Powder Springs and discharged into a tributary of Wildhorse Creek.

The Water System was notified of the overflow on April 17 at 3:28 p.m. and the overflow was stopped on April 17 at 5:30 p.m.

Water System employees upon arrival observed a manhole spilling sewage with the lid secured. The gray sewage escaping the manhole left a 15-foot by 15-foot trail that led into a storm drain that empties into the tributary. After using a bypass pump to alleviate the spill, the crew repaired the structural damage. During their time on site, the crew did not observe any fish kills.

For more information, call the Cobb County Water System’s Maintenance Division at 770-419-6351.
