11-year-old killed in Madera County crash, CHP says

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – An 11-year-old from Coarsegold died in a crash Saturday evening on Highway 41 in Madera County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP says around 5:30 p.m. officers responded to a three-vehicle crash on Highway 41 just south of Jewel Vista Drive.

Investigators say a man was driving a 2015 GMC Yukon traveling southbound on Highway 41 in the southbound lane just south of Jewel Vista Drive at around 60 miles per hour in the rain.

At the same time, CHP says a man was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado northbound Highway 41 in the northbound lane just south of Jewel Vista Drive at 55 miles per hour, opposite Yukon.

CHP says a 2017 Buick Envision was northbound on Highway 41 just south of Jewel Vista driving directly behind the Chevrolet at approximately 48 miles per hour.

Due to the rain and wet roadway, CHP says the GMC driver lost control.

Investigators say the driver attempting to gain control, over-corrected causing the GMC to turn sideways into the northbound lane, and in the direct path of travel of the Chevrolet. The Chevrolet’s front end crashed into the GMC’s right side.

The Buick was unable to avoid the crash and the front end crashed into the left rear of the Chevrolet.

The left rear passenger in the GMC Yukon succumbed to her injuries. Alcohol or drugs were not a factor in this crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.
