Kid Cudi reveals he broke his foot jumping off the Coachella stage: 'A bit crazy'

Kid Cudi just announced that his Sunday Coachella performance landed him in the hospital.

This week has been full of up-and-downs for rapper Kid Cudi, including his engagement to longtime girlfriend Lola Abecassis Sartore , his surprise addition to Coachella , and now a broken foot. In a bid to replace the empty spot left by Vampire Weekend , Cudi was added to the Coachella lineup just days before his Sunday show. His ninth album Insano was released 3 months ago, which made Coachella the perfect stage to begin performing it. That is, until the stage itself became a problem.

Kid Cudi was in the middle of his beloved hit “Memories” when he walked near the stage’s edge. In an attempt to get closer towards fans, the 40-year old rapper jumped off the stage toward the barricade and ultimately landed wrong. He was seen face down, and then moved off by the local security. The rapper had about two songs left to perform, but made no announcements after he was moved. His music continued to be played over the loudspeakers and Youtube livestream , but fans were left confused at his sudden disappearance.

Cudi cleared the air over X last night, essentially calling the fall a "face-palm" moment. “Hey guys, so I broke my foot today at the show. just leavin the hospital. Never broken a bone before so this is all a bit crazy,” he posted .

“I wanna thank u all for ur concerns and well wishes!!” the musician continued. “I love yall man. I heard yall still ragin when I was offstage. Made me smile big.”

From what we can see via fan videos of the incident, the broken bone makes sense. In one particular view , Cudi is seen completely rolling his right ankle and foot - laughing at himself one second and then rolling over in a grimace. Another fan captured clip shows festival security carrying the artist off, who wasn’t able to put any weight on the foot. Now that we know he was unable to stand, his lack of a signoff to the concert goers is quite understandable.

It’s hard to tell how this broken foot will affect Cudi’s upcoming Isano world tour . The North American portion is set to begin at the end of June before wrapping in August, which leaves about a month and a half of recovery time. And the Isano tour is in high demand, as the rapper performed two of the album’s songs at the festival and received wild applause. No changes to the schedule have been announced, so here’s to wishing Cudi a speedy recovery.
