The Florence Police Department has released more details on a wreck that left two people dead Tuesday. According to police, members of the Florence Police Department, Florence Fire Department, Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department, and Lifeguard EMS responded to the intersection of Florence Boulevard and Sweetwater Avenue to a crash that took the lives of two individuals about 4:08 p.m.

Florence chef wins Alabama Seafood Cook-Off, will represent state in national challenge
A chef from Florence has won the annual Alabama Seafood Cook-Off and the privilege of representing the state at the 2024 Great American Seafood Cook-Off. Alabama Gulf Seafood announced that Chef Kyle Ogden of the restaurant Odette in Florence won the state competition with a dish titled “Spring Tide,” featuring a pompano filet with a crab and shrimp mousse. Iron City Woman Arrested for Meth Following Traffic Stop
Charlotte Kay Hayes, age 58, of Iron City, TN was arrested on Saturday, May 4th on charges of possession of meth with intent, possession of schedule III, and driving on revoked 2nd offense. Deputy Darren Pounders filed a report stating that Hayes was observed not stopping at a stop sign at the intersection of Big Cypress Road and Pumping Station Road and was not wearing a seatbelt. Pounders performed a traffic stop on Hayes and was informed by dispatch that Hayes’ driver’s license was revoked. During the course of the traffic stop, Hayes was allegedly found to be in possession of two bags of methamphetamine with a total combined weight of approximately 4.4 grams, and two pills identified as Buprenorphine Hydrochloride. Hayes was arrested and booked into the Wayne County Jail on $82,500.00 bond.

According to the Florence Police Department, multiple people allegedly robbed the Bellamy Place Apartments on April 26, 2024. Detectives were able to later track down the suspects at a house on Cypress Point on Friday.
