    Baseball roundup: 3-run fifth leads Cougars to crossover win

    A three-run fifth inning highlighted by a two-run single from Bryce Phillips broked a five-all tie and helped send the Cougars to a Rock Valley crossover victory over the Cheesemakers on Friday.

    Cooper Atkinson added an RBI single in the fifth that was crucial and Tyler Moe kept visiting Monroe (4-11, 3-5) at bay as he allowed just one unearned runs on two hits in 3 1-3 innings.

    Phillips finished with two hits and three RBI for Clinton (7-6, 4-5) while Logan Thill added two hits and threw the first 3 2-3 innings as he allowed five earned runs on seven hits and five walks.

    Jefferson 10, Brodhead 0 (6) — The Eagles, who are ranked seventh in Division 2 by Wissports.net, continued their strong season with a shutout over the Cardinals in RVC crossover play on Friday.

    Ryan Searls had two of Brodhead/Juda’s five hits but Payton Heard paced a hot-hitting hosting Jefferson squad with three hits. Drew Peterson went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

    Evan Senobe took the loss for the Cardinals (7-7, 5-4) after allowing five earned runs on 10 hits with seven strikeouts in five innings. The Eagles (14-2, 10-1) poured on five runs in the sixth to end the game early.
