CLEVELAND (WJW) — Tonight, you should look up — not for something extra special taking place with the stars or moon, but rather with our feathered friends.

Birds are reportedly going to be flying over Cleveland and the surrounding areas during their path of spring migration.

According to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s bird migration tracker, called BirdCast , anywhere from 7,000 to 14,000 birds should be coming through the city between 11 p.m. on Wednesday to 6 a.m. on Thursday.

The number of birds per kilometer are estimated by using previous migration patterns and weather data.

Already in the last week, millions of birds have passed over the state of Ohio, the tracker found.

“Help protect any birds that pass through your region tonight by turning off all non-essential lighting,” BirdCast said in a statement, explaining that lights during the nighttime can distract the birds, leading to collisions.
