Illinois Duo Sentenced for Multi-Million Dollar Bank Fraud Scheme and Money Laundering
Two Illinois men, Erik Richard Jones and Mitchell Allen Melega, were sentenced to prison after being convicted of bank fraud and money laundering. They were also ordered to pay nearly $4.84 million in restitution for defrauding First Midwest Bank and misappropriating loaned funds. The sentences were handed down in Rock Island, following their guilty pleas to multiple charges. On July 23, 2024, Erik Jones, of Colona, was sentenced to 54 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release. Mitchell Melega, formerly of Orion, was sentenced to 75 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. They were both ordered to pay $4,840,944.63 in restitution.

Davenport Iowa Man Arrested in Grant County for Operating while Intoxicated
At around 9:00 pm on 7/21/24, Grant County Dispatch received a 911 call about a three-vehicle crash located south of the City of Boscobel. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene and identified Frank M. Klee, a 55-year-old from Davenport, IA, as the driver who lost control of his vehicle and collided with a guardrail. This caused his vehicle to block traffic, resulting in two other vehicles, a 2023 Honda driven by Jordan Powers and a 2013 Dodge Caravan driven by Grace Ideker, to collide and sustain significant damage while trying to avoid the blockage.
Fast-Growing National Burger Chain Coming to Eastern Iowa
One of the fastest-growing burger restaurant chains in the nation will be coming to Eastern Iowa!. KCRG reports that Atlanta-based cheeseburger chain Smalls Sliders is planning multiple locations in Eastern Iowa, prioritizing the cities of Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Davenport, Dubuque, Waterloo, and Burlington. While the company won't say which city will get the first Iowa location, you can expect the first Iowa location of Smalls Sliders to open in 2025.

MOLINE, Ill. — Moline Police are asking for help locating a missing woman. According to department officials, 39-year-old Danelle Lucavish hasn't had contact with her family or friends in nearly two weeks, and the department has been unsuccessful in its search for her so far. Police do not believe there is any criminal activity related to her disappearance.

Thirty-nine student-athletes earned All-Adademic Team Honors from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) based on their 2023-2024 overall GPAs, representing all eight Black Hawk College sports teams. The NJCAA 2023-24 All-Academic Teams salute student-athletes across the country for their dedication in the classroom. Davenport family to host fifth annual walk, rally to bring attention to gun violence
DAVENPORT, Iowa — A push to curb gun violence across the Quad Cities will take a step forward this weekend. The family of 16-year-old De'Zia Bailey will host a two-day event including a walk and rally in Davenport. De'Zia was shot and killed while in her home off Grand Avenue in Davenport on March 4, according to police.
