CLEMSON — Boston College and Clemson combined for seven home runs and five errors in Game 1 of their three-game series Thursday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

In the end, the fourth-ranked Tigers made one more play than the Eagles when centerfielder Cam Cannarella launched a 377-foot bomb to left centerfield for a three-run home run, as they rallied for a 12-10 win over BC.

Cannarella’s home run came on a 3-2 pitch with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning with Jacob Hinderleider and Blake Wright standing on first and second base. The centerfielder battle and battle to keep the at-bat alive, as he fouled off five pitches before launching the game winner over the wall in left.

Cannarella finished the evening with two runs scored, three RBIs and was 1-for-3 at the plate. The win was the Tigers’ 22nd come-from-behind win of the season.

Boston College (22-29, 8-20 ACC) grabbed a 5-0 lead to start the game, thanks in large part to two Clemson errors and Parker Landwehr’s three-run homer to left centerfield.

The Eagles got a solo home run from Cameron Leary in the top of the third for a 6-1 lead and then added two more in the top of the fourth as John Collins homered down the leftfield line and Sam McNulty doubled down the rightfield line to score Barry Walsh.

The last two runs came after Clemson (38-13, 18-10 ACC) got a three-run shot from Jimmy Obertop in the bottom of the third inning.

Trailing 8-4, the Tigers continued their comeback in the bottom half of the fourth. With no outs, Jacob Jarrell singled to left centerfield to score Jack Crighton. Then with two outs, Hinderleider singled to short, allowing Jarrell to come home.

Down 8-6 in the fifth, the Tigers got some help from BC’s McNulty at short and first baseman Kyle Wolff. The two combined for three straight errors with two outs, which led to Tristan Bissetta and Jack Crighton scoring to tie the game.

The two Clemson players scored when McNulty short hopped a throw to Wolff at first base. The ball skirted past Wolff, allowing both runners to come home.

Mathes’ leadoff home run in the bottom of the sixth inning allowed the Tigers to take the lead, 9-8. However, it was a short-lived lead, as Walsh got a two-out double to left field to score pinch hitter Austin Hartsell.

The Eagles regained the lead, 10-9, in the top of the eighth inning when Leary hit his second home run of the game. Like his first, Leary’s one-out shot was to straightaway centerfield.
