Growing up, in-state WR Josh Brown always envisioned himself playing basketball.

Playing on the hardwood was always the 2025 recruits first love, but as he got older and into high school, the people in his inner circle convinced him that football might be where his future lied.

While Brown continued to play both sports in high school, his play on the football field got him recognition from college coaches.

“Freshman year was a switch,” Brown told The Clemson Insider. “I was always basketball, basketball, basketball and I came to high school and all these coaches were like ‘man, you could be a good football player.’ And then it just kind of built up from there and here I am.”

Kennesaw State, UAB and Georgia Southern have all been showing interest, and South Carolina has been keeping tabs on Brown as well. He is planning to work out at some camps this summer in an effort to show off his talents, including Clemson, where he will work out on June 4.

“I want them to see my speed and how I can really run my routes,” Brown said. “Because a lot of people have been saying, my routes, I kind of have to sharpen them up on the top and stuff like that. So I want to really see if I can run routes and I can get past guys with my speed.”

Growing up in the state of South Carolina, one might assume Brown was a diehard fan of either Clemson or the rival Gamecocks. However, he was never that big into college football. His parents were fans of Clemson, and he also had has a couple of relatives that played for the Tigers.

“I was never really a big college football guy,” Brown said. “I was always watching for fun. But I had a couple of uncles play for Clemson and my parents are kind of Clemson people.”

At 6-foot-3 and already weighing close to 200-pounds, Brown is the type of outside receiver that the Tigers are still looking for in the 2025 class, and he is hopeful that his workout at camp will prove to the coaches that he is capable of filling that role.

“It would make me feel pretty happy,” Brown said of a potential offer in the future. “It was always for me, a lot of people were telling me, ‘yeah, you’re good, you can get to the next level.’ But I was always thinking FCS or G5 and to hear that somebody that is higher end Power-5, you know like Clemson, who’s winning national championships within the past 10 years, if they were to offer me, that’d be big for me.”
