School board candidates vie for open seat in Calvert
In Calvert County, there is one local race on the primary election ballot and in the race for the District 3 board of education seat it's a case of someone has got to go. Of the three candidates, two will advance to the November general. The three candidates are Jeannette Flaim, Melissa Goshorn and Kelly McConkey. Chesapeake Ghostbusters are out in the community helping raise funds for local nonprofits. Currently, the group is aiding the ARC of Southern Maryland. In addition to craft vendors, the farm on Bryantown Road offered an array of flowers just in bloom for Mothers Day and live music.
Monster truck on display at Prince Frederick dealership
The Raminator monster truck showcases its amazing power over last weekend at Prince Frederick Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram as part of the dealership's 10th annual community appreciation event. This beast of a machine was built by Illinois-based Hall Brothers. It's 10 feet tall, weighs 10,300 pounds and was built at a cost of $150,000.

Patuxent baseball tops La Plata for region title
Conditions were hardly ideal for the 2A South Region title game on Tuesday afternoon, but the inclement weather could not diminish the hosts as the Patuxent High School baseball team upended La Plata 7-3 to capture the region crown and complete a three-game sweep of the Warriors this spring courtesy of a pair of two-out rallies. Children attending the museum's May 11 event learned about bugs living along the Potomac River shoreline. The educational session was the theme of the museum's "Second Saturday" program. The lighthouse museum will host another Second Saturday event in August, which will feature "shore combing for families/children and adults."

CSM building in Leonardtown scheduled for a facelift
The College of Southern Maryland’s Leonardtown campus is due to be renovated and the St. Mary’s commissioners approved a grant request to do just that at their meeting Tuesday. The total project cost is $16.3 million. Planning and the first phase of construction will cost $7.7 million and take place in fiscal 2026, while the second construction phase and capital equipment will cost $8.4 million and take place a year later. ...
