The Bosque County Veterans Memorial Committee recently announced that the Cleburne Railroaders will be donating its online ticket sales from its game on Friday, July 5, to the Bosque Veterans Memorial in Meridian.

The committee applied for the club’s Charity Spotlight program that supports 501©3 organizations for the 2024 season.

“I am really excited to bring this new community initiative to the Railroaders and hope it brings you success!” Kay Goodell, assistant general manager, said via email to the committee in early April.

The Railroaders’ game against the Lake County DockHounds on July 5 will feature fireworks with gates opening at 6 p.m. and first pitch at 7 p.m. in Cleburne.

The funds are raised from $5 of every digital ticket sold online through a special QR Code.

BCVM Coordinator Andrea Wallum stated that the memorial could receive up to $7,000 from the online ticket sales.

“Plan on attending if you don’t have other plans. It’s a fun place to go and it’s not too far to drive either,” she said.

    Matching donation

The Meridian Economic Development Committee approvedgrantingtheBosque County Veterans Memorial Committee a $20,000 matching donation towards the veterans’ memorial during the MEDC’s meeting on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

Since then, the committee raised $17,500 from an anonymous donor and collected almost $7,000 more from a raffle and auction.

“We were able to make another large payment to the RMB Monuments and bring the balance down from $35,000 to $20,000,” Wallum said.

Wallum said that RMB Monuments agreed to complete the project sooner by delivering and installing themonumentsandmemorial bricks quickly.

    About the memorial

To make a monetary donation to the memorial, send a check to the Bosque County Veterans Memorial, P.O. Box 19, Meridian, Texas 76665.

Donations go toward a memorial for U.S. military veterans from inside and outside Bosque County which will be located at the intersection of Highway 6 and Highway 22 in Meridian.

The plans for the memorial include six large stones representing the branches of the U.S. military with personalized engraved paver bricks placed around the flagpole.

In May 2023, the committee paid the initial down payment ($10,000) for the six stones finished by RMB Monuments. The stones are reportedly completed and are awaiting installation.

Anyone wishing to purchase a brick to honor a veteran may do so, regardless of their residency.

The estimated cost of the memorial monument project is $150,000.
