    Gas prices down slightly after ‘skyrocket,’ AAA says

    CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — Gas prices in northern West Virginia have dropped by five cents this week after “skyrocketing” 15 cents two weeks ago and increasing again the week after. The average gas price is now $3.59 per gallon of regular gas, according to AAA data.

    This time last year, gas prices were averaging $3.47, according to AAA.

    Locally, prices are averaging $3.60 in Bridgeport, $3.57 in Clarksburg and $3.62 in Morgantown.

    Nationally, gas prices are averaging $3.66, according to AAA data.

    As of the latest available Energy Information Administration data , on April 19, 2024, the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve’s levels were at 365,677 barrels after seeing a low of 346,758 barrels in July 2023, which had previously not been seen since August 1983.
