State judge overturns sentencing for Scranton woman who killed her husband
The State Superior Court overturned the sentence of a Scranton woman convicted of fatally stabbing her fiancé and ruled she be resentenced. Eileen Dougherty of Scranton received a 7½- to 15-year prison sentence in February of last year. The Lackawanna County district attorney challenged that relatively lenient sentence in an appeal. Dougherty was arrested in March 2021 for stabbed George Shencavitz multiple times following an argument at their home on Delaware Street. She pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and was sentenced by Lackawanna County Judge Andy Jarbola.

Former Scranton official facing fraud charges
A former City of Scranton official is facing fraud charges. According to reports, Selina Andiappan, Scranton's former executive director of the Office of Economic and Community Development faces charges after she allegedly collected nearly $20,000 by fraudulently representing her income. Andiappan allegedly applied for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits on Dec. 13, 2021, representing that she was supporting herself and three children with no income. Andiappan was arraigned on felony fraud and forgery charges Tuesday morning. She was released on $50,000 unsecured bail and has a preliminary hearing scheduled April 9.
