COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office arrested a woman and seized drugs during a search on Stanley Circle Extension on Wednesday, Feb. 28. Per the CCSO, a search warrant was executed at about 4:30 p.m. when the SWAT team entered the building while other deputies surrounded the building. Six people were detained and one person was arrested.

BOLTON, N.C. (WECT) - About seven miles of U.S. 74/76 are set to be repaved thanks to an $8.7 million contract awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation this week. Per the NCDOT, the repaving will stretch from around N.C. 214 (Sam Potts Highway) in Bolton to Water Tank Road near the Columbus and Brunswick County line.

Convicted killer's sentence reduced after his testimony in murder-for-hire trial
A convicted killer has received a reduced sentence based on his cooperation and testimony in the murder trial and conviction of a co-defendant. Randy Grainger, 57, of Loris, received two life sentences to be served consecutively after his trial last year. But after testifying against the woman who hired him to commit the murders, Grainger’s life sentences will now be served concurrently, leaving open the possibility of parole. He was resentenced at a hearing in a Fifteenth Judicial District courtroom in Conway on Thursday.
