CLARENCE, N.Y. (WIVB) — Spring has sprung and many gardeners are starting to plan out their gardens this year.

From April 15-30, FeedMore WNY is holding their annual plant sale that partners with local green houses and nurseries, where you can purchase a voucher online for plants, and pick them out personally.

“The spring plant sale is just a great way to help out our local businesses as well as FeedMore and spread the word, get some gardening out there, get in the dirt and have some fun,” said Jenna Curran, Special Events Specialist at FeedMore.

Plant by plant, gardeners can help grow the essentials needed to help fight food insecurity in our community.

“Hunger exists in every zip code in our community, 365 days a year,” said chief communications officer, Collin Bishop. “Support like this matters because you’re helping people all year round.”

Lavocat’s Family Greenhouse and Nursery in Clarence has partnered with FeedMore WNY for more than a decade for this sale. The seeds of their business were planted back in 1980 and have grown throughout generations of their family ever since.

“Our whole family is involved,” said owner Chris Lavocat. “My sister runs our garden center, my brother lands the landscaping, my parents are still involved, my sister-in-law manages the office and I handle the overall business functions.”

Their family business grows 65,000 four and a half inch pots, 7,000 hanging baskets, and several thousand annual flats. Most of those will be available for sale by FeedMore WNY customers through April 30. Orders will be ready for pickup in May.

“It’s a real good way to do something that you’re probably going to do anyway and you’re helping to support FeedMore while you’re doin it,” said Bishop.
