Former Kandiyohi County Commissioner passes away
(Willmar MN-) Former Kandiyohi County Commissioner Richard Falk has died. Falk, of Willmar, was a long-time realtor and served on the Kandiyohi County Board from 1999 to 2010. He also served on The Willmar School Board, The Rice Memorial Hospital Board, and was married to the late artist Audrey Falk. Richard Falk passed away at his winter home in Arizona Wednesday at the age of 87. Services will take place this Spring at Bethel Lutheran Church.

Hearing for Maynard murder suspect delayed
(Willmar MN-) A court hearing Willmar today for a Maynard woman charged with the drug-related murder of a Willmar man has been delayed. 19-year-old Mercedes Carpenter is charged with 3rd Degree Murder, 2nd Degree Manslaughter and 3rd Degree Drug Sales for allegedly selling fentanyl to a Willmar man September 26th of last year. The man was later found dead in the bath tub of his southeast Willmar home and the cause of death was fentanyl toxicity. Carpenter is currently free on $50,000 conditional bail and was slated to appear for an omnibus hearing in Kandiyohi County District Court but her attorney asked for a 1 to 2 month delay while they wait for the results of the extraction of data from Carpenter's cellphone.

Woman honored for saving man's life during WHS hockey game
(Willmar MN-) On February 13th a life saving award was presented to Heather Coleman at the Willmar Cardinal hockey game by Tim Rehn. According to Willmar Police, on December 10th, Tim Rehn (an adult hockey league player) collapsed on the ice and went into cardiac arrest. Coleman, a retired EMT and former firefighter, went onto the ice, performed CPR & connected an AED to Rehn which provided a life saving shock to restart his heart. Rehn even regained consciousness before he was transported to the hospital. He has made a complete recovery after treatment. In a news release, Willmar Police say "Great job, Heather! You took quick action in a time when someone needed you most. We're incredibly proud of you and to have you in our community! Thank you!"
