UPDATED: Softball games changed
SPOONER – There have been changes made in the WIAA Softball Regionals for the Spooner Rails in Division 3, Shell Lake Lakers in Division 4 and Northwood/Solon Springs Fusion in Division 5. Spooner: The Spooner girls will now play Cumberland tonight, Monday, May 20, at 5 p.m. in Spooner. Shell Lake: The Laker softball Regional has been rescheduled to Wednesday, May 22, at 5 p.m. The Lakers will host Chetek-Weyerhaeuser at Shell Lake. Northwood/Solon Springs: Northwood/Solon Springs has been rescheduled to Tuesday, May 21, at Solon Springs at 5 p.m. against Prentice.
Center City allows on/off sale liquor at Nordic Inn
Center City Council met May 7 for a regular meeting. All members were present with City Clerk Dana Miron absent and 23 people were in attendance at City Hall. The council began with discussing Hursh Iron Works. City Attorney Ted Alliegro told the council the next step would be mediation to try and find a common ground. The city has been asked to provide water to the property. A representative from Hursh told the council the building project in Taylors Falls is moving along and by quarter one of next year, they hope to have some of the large equipment relocated to Taylors Falls.

Drug investigation results in four local arrests
After a four-month investigation into drug activity throughout Sawyer, Washburn and Barron Counties, four persons have been arrested, according to the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Police Department. Three individuals from Spooner were charged, and a Stone Lake area resident was arrested in Barron County after a traffic stop. St. Croix Falls put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They put the hurt on the Cameron Comets with a sharp 13-1 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as St. Croix Falls also won the last time the pair played back in April.
Shell Lake hanging baskets will soon adorn the city
SHELL LAKE — Soon, Shell Lake’s Main Street and beach lampposts will be adorned with gorgeous hanging baskets from Yellow River Gardens. Linda Berger has been planting and nurturing the wave and super-petunias since February. Shell Lake’s city crew will hang the baskets around Memorial Day, weather-permitting. SPOONER — Spooner Memorial Library has partnered with BrandRaise, LLC to conduct a Capital Campaign Readiness Study for their proposed building renovation and expansion project.
