K-State Salina lecture tackling community challenges
People will have the chance to discuss community challenges at Kansas State University Salina's Civic Lecture Series on Feb. 11. K-State Salina's Civic Lecture Series, "The Power of People to Impact the Common Good," will focus on collective action and people-powered organizing according to a community announcement. The lecture will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the K-State Salina College Center Conference Room. The event will feature Ben MacConnell, Great Plains coordinator at the Direct Action and Research Training (DART) Center, who has spent 25 years in the DART network. The discussion will address topics like housing insecurity, health care gaps, substance abuse and over-incarceration. MacConnell believes that change starts with people, not institutions, asserting that solutions to community issues are already present, but public will is lacking. Admission to the event is free, and attendees may bring an outside lunch or purchase a meal from K-State Salina's Centennial Dining.
