Two Circleville people, father and a son, die after vehicle crash

PICKAWAY TWP — Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two-vehicle crash where two Circleville residents, a father and son, died as a result of their injuries from the accident.

PCSO said the Pickaway County Communications Center received a 911 call around 7:28 p.m. Wednesday (May 22) about a two-vehicle traffic crash in the area of Kingston Adelphi Road and State Route 159, in Pickaway Township.

When deputies arrived on scene, they learned the crash occurred in the area of Kingston Adelphi Road and Zanes-Trace Road. Throughout their investigation they learned John G. Curtis, 15, of Circleville was driving a 2007 white Hyundai eastbound on Kingston Adelphi Road, according to a press release from PCSO.

Curtis drove off the right side of the roadway, then overcorrected, went into the westbound lane of travel. When the Hyundai went into the westbound lane of travel it struck a 2006 white Ford 350 driven by Jerian W. Troyer, 27, of Frankfort, Ohio.

When the two vehicles collided, it forced the Hyundai into the ditch and the Ford came to rest on top of the Hyundai. Both John Curtis and the passenger of his vehicle Joe D. Curtis, 46, were entrapped in the vehicle, according to PCSO.

John Curtis was extracted from the vehicle and flown by Med Flight to Grant Medical Center and was later taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Joe D. Curtis from Circleville was pronounced dead at the scene of the traffic crash by Pickaway Township EMS at 8:10 p.m.

On Saturday, May 25, John Curtis succumbed to injuries he sustained in the crash and passed away while still at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, according to PCSO.

Sheriff Matthew Hafey thanked the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Pickaway Township Fire and EMS, Saltcreek-Tarlton EMS and Fire Department, Green Township Fire and EMS, Clearcreek Township Fire Department, MedFlight and Air Evac for their assistance at the scene.
