Retail News: Landry’s Seafood House debuts in Sugar Land
A new Landry’s Seafood House has opened in the Houston area. Located at 19740 Southwest Fwy, Sugar Land, TX 77479, this building has been a revolving door for Landry’s concepts. It originally opened as a Joe’s Crab Shack in 2004. In 2006, Landry’s sold off Joe’s Crab Shack to new ownership. The new owners converted the Sugar Land restaurant into Brickhouse Tap + Tavern in early 2016. The following year, Landry’s would repurchase Joe’s Crab Shack, including the Brickhouse Tap + Tavern locations. Landry’s continued to close Joe’s Crab Shack locations, converting some to Brickhouse and leaving others empty. However, more recently, Brickhouse has encountered its own issues. While Landry’s hasn’t been very open about Brickhouse’s problems, the “craft beer” segment it acquired from Joe’s former parent company, Ignite Brands, isn’t as appealing as it once was. Rather than shut down the Sugar Land location for good, it closed earlier this year for a months-long renovation. The new concept isn’t unfamiliar to Houstonians: Landry’s Seafood House. The original incarnation, which helped found the Landry’s empire. While the exterior and interior both take cues from the recently departed original Landry’s, an element of Joe’s Crab Shack is thrown into the mix, with an outdoor pirate ship playground making a return.
