    Jodie Comer, Austin Butler of Cincinnati-filmed 'Bikeriders' will wave Indy 500 green flag

    Austin Butler and Jodie Comer will wave the green flag as honorary starters for the 2024 Indy 500 , the Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced Tuesday.

    The two co-star in "The Bikeriders," a film written and directed by Jeff Nichols and partly filmed in Cincinnati . Based off the book by Danny Lyon , the film, set to be released in theaters June 21, tells the story of the Vandals, a fictional Midwestern motorcycle club, and the relationship between new member Benny (Butler) and his wife, Kathy (Comer). As the Vandals become increasingly violent, Benny finds himself having to choose between Kathy and his club.

    Among the Greater Cincinnati locations in the film's trailer are the Purple People Bridge, Edgewater Motor Sports Park and the Pepper Pod Restaurant in Newport.

    Both Butler and Comer have high-profile acting resumes. The former is especially known for his starring role as Elvis Presley opposite Tom Hanks in the 2022 biopic "Elvis." For that, he won won a BAFTA and Golden Globe Award. Butler also has appeared in “Dune: Part Two,” the Apple TV+ series “Masters of the Air” and on Broadway in “The Iceman Cometh."

    British actress Comer starred as Villanelle in the BBC America series “Killing Eve," for which she won an Emmy Award and BAFTA Award. Comer also has performed in “Prima Facie" on Broadway and the West End, and she won a Tony Award and Drama Desk Award, among other honors.
