No more burgers on Broadway? Nation Kitchen + Bar shutters original Pendleton location

There will be no more burgers on Broadway, it seems. Nation Kitchen + Bar has officially announced the closing of its original location at the corner of Broadway and East 12th Street, in Pendleton .

That will come as no surprise to Pendleton residents, since the burger joint, which opened in 2015, has been closed since last year.

In a May 1 Facebook post , the owners said they wanted to focus more on Nation's other locations at The Banks, Milford and Westwood.

"We have been proud to call Pendleton our home," the post read, "but it was time for us to move on."

Nation was opened by Andrew Salzbrun, Jack Weston and Aaron Kohlheppe in the summer of 2015. The restaurant, serving cheffed-up burgers and sandwiches, was named after Carrie Nation , a temperance activist known for her practice of walking into bars and destroying them with a hatchet.

It was one of the first on-trend restaurants to open on or near the intersection of Broadway and East 12th, sharing the block with Lucius Q Barbecue , Boomtown Biscuits & Whiskey and Hart & Cru . Nation's first chef, Kayla Robison, would go on to become a local celebrity of sorts, making a name for herself with appearances on nationally televised TV shows, including "Chopped," "Guy's Grocery Games," "The Today Show" and "Cheap Eats." Robison left Nation in 2018 to take over the kitchen at Arnold's.

"It was a great 8 year run," the post read, "we got to be a small part of the rejuvenation of a great neighborhood."
