Fifth Third Bank Is Closing These 29 Branches in 2024
By Jenny Cohen,

Fifth Third Bank plans to shut down locations in at least seven states this year.
The bank joins other financial institutions that have announced branch closings, including Capital One, Citizens Bank, and PNC Bank. If your local branch is closing, you might need to find a new place to grow your savings .
Check this list of Fifth Third closings to see if your branch is one of the 29 that will be shut down.
Fifth Third Bank has closed one of its locations in Smyrna, which is situated between Atlanta and Marietta. The Fifth Third website says two branches remain open in Smyrna.
The state still has more than two dozen different Fifth Third branches, including five in Atlanta.
Chicago has 42 Fifth Third Bank branches, which may be why the bank decided to shut down one of them.
The location on West Cermak near a Chicago Transit Authority’s “L” train system stop is also close to a Chase branch, Bank of America branch, and US Bank branch. Perhaps that caused potential issues with competition in the area.
3. Indiana
19 W. Main St., Poseyville
The Fifth Third Bank location in Poseyville is already closed to customers, leaving them to look for another branch.
The shuttered location was the only Fifth Third branch in Poseyville, so customers now will have to travel to Haubstadt or Evansville, which has eight locations.
Several branches in the greater Cincinnati area were closed, including a branch in nearby Cold Spring, Kentucky.
The branch was located inside a Kroger in Cold Spring, which is across the Ohio River from Cincinnati.
5. Michigan
116 S. Broadway St., Cassopolis
39907 S. Groesbeck Highway, Clinton Township
4109 Portage Road, Kalamazoo
384 First St., Watervliet
Some customers will have to find new Fifth Third branches to do their banking now that four locations have shut down in Michigan.
Clinton Township residents may not have to look far, however, as the city still has three Fifth Third Bank locations. Kalamazoo has four branches remaining.
6. North Carolina
6700 Fairview Road, Charlotte
201 North Charlotte Ave., Monroe
Even though the Fairview Road branch has shut down, Charlotte has 23 Fifth Third Bank locations.
Monroe, however, is now limited to just one branch, on West Roosevelt Boulevard.
Fifth Third Bank is headquartered in Cincinnati, but that hasn’t prevented branch closings in Ohio.
Plenty of branches remain, however, with Cincinnati leading the state with 39 branches while Columbus has 18 branches.
Other bank closings
Fifth Third Bank is not alone when it comes to bank closures.
Citizens Bank closed 21 branches so far this year, with Pennsylvania being hit the hardest.
PNC Bank also shuttered 21 branches in 2024. Pittsburgh saw three branches close while Laredo, Texas, said goodbye to two branches.
Capital One didn’t take as much of a hit, closing 16 branches so far in 2024, including five closures in New York City.
Why are branches closing
Americans have changed how they bank, with many switching to online banks.
Online banking was becoming more popular with customers before the pandemic and its popularity accelerated during COVID-19 lockdowns. The result is that more brick-and-mortar branches are closing.
Another factor in branch closings is consolidation, with banks merging and redundant branches being eliminated as part of the process.
If your Fifth Third branch is closing and you don’t have another branch close by, consider moving some of your banking to online or mobile options.
Finding a new place to bank might not be fun, but there are plenty of options if your Fifth Third branch closes down.
Perhaps there is another Fifth Third branch nearby that you can visit. Or, consider switching to a different bank if you need a branch nearby for your particular banking needs.
