Ellinwood's Heinz celebrates state golf title; team finishes second
Ellinwood senior Drew Heinz entered the Class 2A State Golf Championships in Dodge City Monday and Tuesday as a two-time state runner-up. He finished three shots behind Salina-Sacred Heart's Michael Matteucci last year, and missed the title by a single shot as a sophomore. Monday was a big day. Heinz shot a 66 on day one to open up a 5-stroke lead. He shot a 74 on Tuesday to finish with 140 strokes and beat the runner-up Matteucci by eight strokes.
Severe storms return to Kansas Thursday, Weather Alert issued for Saturday
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Update: Storm Team 12 has issued a Weather Alert Day for Saturday for severe thunderstorms in central and eastern Kansas, including Salina and Wichita. Chief Meteorologist Ross Janssen said storms should fire east of Dodge City and move east into the evening hours. Most of the severe weather (as of now) should remain south of I-70. Threats include very large hail, wind, and maybe a couple of tornadoes.
