CHURCH HILL — The Claiborne Lady Bulldogs did what they could to spoil senior night for Volunteer softball on Tuesday night, hanging a 10-0 District 2-3A loss on the Lady Falcons.

Claiborne racked up 15 hits and took advantage of three Volunteer errors to invoke the run rule after the sixth inning. Volunteer managed just four hits in the game and struck out nine times.

The Lady Falcons didn’t let the loss put a damper on the celebration of their six seniors: Abby Fisher, Elise Bous, Haley Russell, Mallorie Kenner, Katelynn Trent and Kaitlyn Pierson. All six saw action in the game and were recognized, along with their families, in a post-game ceremony.

Marley Sweet went the distance to earn the win for Claiborne. She gave up one hit each to Zetta Smith, Russell, Jenna Thomas and Addyson Fisher. She walked one and struck out nine.

Trent took the loss for Volunteer. She gave up seven runs (three earned) on nine hits in three innings of work. Bous finished the game, giving up three runs on six hits with one walk and two strikeouts in three innings.
