Co-Curators Dr. Norman Doggett and Dr. Matthew Martinez. Over the last twenty-five years the Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Project has worked diligently for the protection and preservation of the cultural landscape of the northern Rio Grande Valley region. There are well over 100,000 petroglyphs that encompass a vast timeline from Archaic periods through Spanish contact and 20th century influences. In addition to ancestral petroglyphs, Mesa Prieta includes numerous archaeological features such as grid gardens and historic trails that are interwoven in the Valley’s histories.
