Chicopee resident celebrates 100th birthday with the community

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Chicopee resident, described as a cherished member of the community, celebrated her 100th birthday Saturday at Roberto’s Restaurant in Northampton.

Born in Holyoke on May 25, 1924, Helen Lamoureux moved to Chicopee in 1948, where she has lived all her adult life. She dedicated many years of service to the Western Mass ElderCare, particularly the Meals on Wheels program, prior to retiring at 72.

22News spoke to Helen who shared her advice to the next generation; stay active. “I say keep exercising, make sure you keep exercising, keep active, do a lot of reading.”

She credited her daughter and friends for setting up a celebration she will never forget.
