Blackhawks at IIHF Worlds: Lukas Reichel's 2-Point Game Helps Germany Double Up France

Lukas Reichel continued his point-scoring ways on Tuesday at the 2024 IIHF World Championship. The Chicago Blackhawks forward logged one goal and one assist in Germany's final game of preliminary round action, a 6-3 win over France.

The first half of the game was a back-and-forth affair. France held a 3-2 lead midway through the second period when Reichel helped turn the tide in favor of Germany by notching the lone assist on Wojciech Stachowiak's equalizing goal.

The 22-year-old stole the puck in the neutral zone and bolted up the left wing, where he was forced wide of the net. But Reichel stayed with the play, fired a centering pass that deflected off a French defender, retrieved the loose puck, and backhanded it to Stachowiak for the tap-in goal.

From there, Germany took control and added three more goals. Early in the third period, Reichel crashed the blue paint and buried a power-play rebound chance for the game's final goal.

Reichel finished the preliminary round of the 2024 IIHF Worlds with seven points (three goals, four assists) in five games. After a rough debut game against Sweden on May 13, his surge in production was an encouraging sign following an underwhelming season with the Blackhawks.

Reichel and Germany have an off day before the quarterfinal round begins on Thursday. They'll face fellow Blackhawks forward Philipp Kurashev and Switzerland.
