The Chicago Cubs made a pair of roster moves before first pitch against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday afternoon. Chicago is placing pitcher Colten Brewer on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to May 14) with a back strain.

The 31-year-old right-hander has appeared in seven games for the Cubs in 2024. Brewer sports a 3.49 ERA over 11.2 innings pitched. He's given up nine hits, one home run, and struck out three batters for every walk.

    Cubs Call Up Porter Hodge

In Colten Brewer's place, the Cubs recalled pitcher Porter Hodge from Iowa. So far in 2024, Hodge appeared in 10 games for Triple-A Iowa. He owns a 6.55 ERA across 11 innings pitched and has given up 12 hits.

Hodge gave up 10 runs (eight earned), struck out 18 batters, and walked 11 others.

The 23-year-old righty also threw four innings in Double-A Tennessee in 2024, sporting a 0.00 ERA with eight strikeouts.

The Cubs look to bounce back against Pittsburgh after a tough loss on Thursday night.
