UPDATE: 22-year-old man, now in custody, charged in CPD Officer Luis Huesca's murder

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Prosecutors have officially filed first-degree murder charges against the 22-year-old man accused of murdering Chicago Police Officer Luis Huesca.

Chicago police said, with the help of the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, they arrested Xavier Tate Jr. without incident in Glendale Heights, at around 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. In a symbolic gesture, they used Officer Huesca’s own handcuffs to detain the 22-year-old, who is listed in court documents as living in Aurora.

The department said Officer Huesca was on his way home after his shift the morning of April 21st when he was shot in Gage Park. His badge, car and gun were missing when police found him.

Investigators said Caschaus Tate, Xavier’s relative, threw Officer Huesca’s gun over a fence in Morgan Park last week as police were inside.
