A 15-year-old Canute High School student earned the prestigious title of Miss Route 66 last week. Taylor Sullivan is the daughter of Frank and Patsy Sullivan. The victory also earned her the privilege of participating in the Miss Oklahoma Teen pageant. The program is a part of the Miss American System, which gives out tens of thousands in annual scholarship money.
Crews Respond To Butler Church Fire
Fire crews battled a church fire near Butler and thanks to their efforts and the weather they may have prevented another bad wildfire from spreading. The fire occurred at the German Free Will Baptist Church northwest of the Custer County community at noon on Thursday and saw crews from the Butler, Leedey, Custer City, Clinton, and Weatherford Fire Departments respond to put out the blaze before it could spread to a nearby pasture.

Blown Tire Causes Single Vehicle Wreck Near Elk City
An Arizona woman was hospitalized after wrecking her Jeep Wrangler near Elk City Thursday morning. According to the collision report provided by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 10:22 a.m. on Interstate 40, 2 miles west of Elk City when the 2007 Jeep Wrangler had a blowout, causing 39-year-old Angelica Garza of Rio Rico, Arizona to lose control of the vehicle. As a result the Jeep departed the road tot he left, entered the median and rolled a 1/4 time onto its side.
Beckham County Fire Departments respond to Texas Panhandle and western Oklahoma fires
Massive fires broke out on Tuesday across the Texas Panhandle and several Oklahoma counties that border the state. Because of the chaos, multiple communities and two states plagued by the fire, it is still unclear how many acres burned. The highest report that this reporter has seen as of 10 pm on Wednesday was approximately 850,000 acres, but that official was clear that it really cannot be known. The cause of the fire or fires is also not yet known. One report indicated thirteen homes were burned on the Oklahoma side, but again, that number is not confirmed. The number of confi rmed homes on the Texas side will be larger, but no numbers are coming out of that.

Hook Family Endowment Established at SWOSU
Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) with locations in Weatherford, Sayre, and Yukon has announced the establishment of the Hook Family Endowment.
