CHESTERTOWN — On Friday, the Chestertown Garden Club held May Mart, an open-air event where green-thumbed folks purchased a variety of native plants, houseplants, herbs, blooms, garden treasurers, jewelry and even baked goods.

It was a decent turnout at Fountain Park between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. All proceeds went towards beautifying Memorial and Fountain Park.

Members of the club were on hand to offer advice to new growers as well as experienced plant veterans.

Winners of the raffle got to spend $100 at a local business of their choice and the warm weather and gentle breeze seemed to put everyone in a good mood.

Food was courtesy of the vendor, Happy Chicken.

According to club member, Jeff Coomer, they usually sell lots of perennial flowering plants, but every year’s different.

First Vice President of the club Secethia Boardley-Davis said whatever items not sold go to the Rock Hall Garden Club to their annual plant sale. That’s on May 11, 8 a.m. to noon, on Main Street.

Check out the Chestertown Garden Club’s activities on their Facebook page where they aim to{span} “create a mutual interest in gardening and to be an aid for the designing of attractive surroundings in the community.”
